Jun 04, 2015 01:44PM ● Published by J. Chambless

Hockessin does the Fourth of July in a big way, with family events taking place all day. The events are:
Neighborhood Relays
8 a.m., Piedmont Fields
Join hundreds of local kids competing in long jump, softball toss and relay races.  Help your neighborhood earn bragging rights and an opportunity to carry the winning banner in the afternoon parade. Information and sign-up is available online at www.Hockessin4thofJuly.org, or contact mgodwin@hachealthclub.com.

Eating Contest
2:30 p.m., George & Sons Seafood
For the first time, see the “Great American Gut Buster Food Devouring Spectacle” as contestants go head-to-head to try and be the fastest to conquer a feast including wings, hot dogs and burgers from 2 Fat Guys American Grill, and oysters from George & Sons Seafood.

4th of July Parade
3 p.m., Old Lancaster Pike
Come enjoy the music, floats, classic cars and star-spangled nostalgia.  Register to march at www.Hockessin4thofJuly.org.

4th of July Fireworks
At dusk, Piedmont Fields at the Hockessin Public Library
Bring your own seating and watch the fireworks for free. For a map, visit www.Hockessin4thofJuly.org.

All Hockessin 4th of July festivities are organized by a volunteer committee. Everything is funded by contributions.  Send a tax-deductible donation to:  The Delaware Community Foundation, Attn:  Hockessin 4th of July Fund, P. O. Box 1636, Wilmington, DE  19899; or visit  www.Hockessin4thofJuly.org.
