Bike and hike at Hagley this summer

May 05, 2015 10:14AM ● By J. Chambless

Hagley Museum will expand the popular Bike and Hike series this summer, adding more evenings, which now begin in June.

Every Wednesday evening in June, July, and August, Hagley’s property will be opened for guests to walk, bike, hike, and stroll. Bike and Hike runs 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and free for members and children 5 and younger. The dates are June 3, 10, 17, and 24; July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29; Aug. 5, 12, 19, and 26.

“Guests to Bike and Hike nights are able to explore parts of the property not typically open to visitors,” said Joan Hoge-North, director of museum services. “It’s a great opportunity to experience some of the oldest parts of our property.”

Through the Hagley Hikers program, visitors ages 6 and older can sign up to track their miles at Hagley. Program participants who walk 20 miles or visit Hagley six times between June 3 and Sept. 24 will be eligible for a special twilight hayride through Hagley in October. After the last Bike and Hike on Aug. 26, Hagley Hikers may still gain miles at Hagley during regular museum hours. Mileage maps will be available at the Visitor Center.  Interested hikers may sign up at Bike and Hike or in the Visitor Center.

The Urban Bike Project will be at Hagley for Bike and Hike on June 17 and Aug. 19.

Bring your date and wander along the most beautiful mile on the Brandywine or through wooded trails above the powder yard. Complement your evening with a Belin House Organic Café picnic tote for $20 (includes sandwiches, side, salad, drinks, and cookies). Picnic tote orders are due by 3 p.m. each Tuesday and can be placed at 302-658-2400, ext. 271. Visit www.hagley.org for details.

On June 24, July 29, and Aug. 26, four-legged walkers on leashes are welcome at Hagley for the Dog Days of Summer Bike and Hike.  Leashes for dogs and waste removal are required. Waggies by Maggie and Friends, Concord Pet, and Woodside Creamery will be at Hagley on every Dog  Day Bike and Hike.  Dogs are not permitted at Hagley on regular days.

For more information, call (302) 658-2400 weekdays or visit www.hagley.org.
