Flower Market issues appeal for donations

May 16, 2016 12:12PM ● By J. Chambless

On May 11, the chairman of the Wilmington Flower Market issued the following appeal after the fundraising event was largely rained out. The letter reads:

Dear Friends of Wilmington Flower Market,

We need your help!

Wilmington Flower Market is a non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization that raises money for children’s charities in Delaware. In the 96 years of operation, we have distributed over seven million dollars to many agencies. We have provided such things as camperships, coats, shoes, books, furniture, car seats, food and more. The agencies we support depend on the funds we give them each year and may have to postpone purchases or cancel programs that we would be funding.

As many of you know, Flower Market is an outdoor event and we were plagued with rain, cold and mud this year. It was heartwarming to see those who came out to support us despite the elements, but we still need your help. We raised about half the money that we have in the past. We would ask you to consider making a donation online on our website wilmingtonflowermarket.org. You may also send in a check to PO Box 3525, Greenville, DE 19807.

Thank you for considering a donation to Wilmington Flower Market to help Delaware’s children.

Sincerely,

Terri Pennington

Chairman 2016
